Now based in Hong Kong, British violinist and violist Oliver gained his Bachelor of Music (Honours) in violin performance from Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London. During his studies, he was fortunate enough to study under some of the UK’s top violin professors, including Michael Bochmann, John Crawford and Pieter Schoeman, and viola professors Elizabeth Turnbull and Matthew Jones. With his string quartet, he participated in masterclasses with the Wihan Quartet and Smith Quartet, amongst many others.
Teaching
Oliver is a dedicated and passionate educator who has always had a particular interest in inspiring a new generation of musicians. This led him to take up a position as a violin and viola teacher at a specialist music school founded by Sultan Qaboos bin Said in Muscat, Oman, where he lived for 8 years. In Muscat, he had the opportunity to teach local Omani children, helping transform them from absolute beginners to orchestral players.
Aside from teaching one-on-one lessons, Oliver has also conducted string orchestras and coached chamber music groups. He has had years of experience with the ABRSM exam board with 100% exam success rate - almost 90% of exam results either Distinction or Merit.
Oliver has enjoyed a diverse career as a performing violinist. In London, he performed with 80’s rock band Squeeze at the Royal Albert Hall, with comedian Stephen Fry at the Royal Festival Hall and for HRH Prince Philip aboard the famous Cutty Sark ship. He has performed all over Europe and in the Middle East with various ensembles, at prestigious venues such as Dubai Opera House and Royal Opera House Muscat.
